DR. JOY DOWDEN HUGHES

GENERAL SURGERY AND SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE

Dr. Joy Dowden Hughes is Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She attended medical school at the University of MS SOM. Then, she completed her General Surgery Residency at the Mayo Clinic followed by a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. "I went to medical school thinking I would be an infectious disease specialist and do global medicine. I became a surgeon because I like the feeling of being completely present and focused in the operating room. I like to solve problems, and I enjoy getting to know patients. Mississippi is my home and I want to do all I can to make it better and healthier." Dr. Hughes resides in Oxford with her husband Josh Hughes, MD, Neurosurgeon, and their two little girls. She enjoys white water kayaking, reading, and humanitarian medicine missions in her free time.

DR. MICHAEL LOVELACE

GENERAL AND VASCULAR SURGERY

Dr. Michael Lovelace, FACS is board certified in General and Vascular Surgery. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Ole Miss, he attended medical school at the University of MS. Then, he did his General Surgery Residency at the University of TN in Memphis followed by a Vascular Fellowship at University of TN. Dr. Lovelace has been in practice in Oxford since 1987. "I chose surgery after being influenced by my father, who was John R Lovelace of Batesville, MS. He was a general surgeon and family practice physician in Batesville for years. I have witnessed tremendous change in the makeup of our medical community and continuous growth in our medical complex. In regard to my current practice, I often say that my patients are not just my patients, but oftentimes become my friends," said Dr. Lovelace. He is married to Sharon Warren Lovelace, and they have two grown children and four grandchildren. When he’s not in the office, Dr. Lovelace enjoys spending time on his farm.

DR. HENRY ALDEN KIRK

GENERAL AND VASCULAR SURGERY

After receiving his undergraduate degree in both Chemistry and Business from Millsaps College, Dr. Henry Alden Kirk attended University of MS Medical School and completed a General Surgery Residency. Dr. Kirk has been practicing in Oxford for 13 years and is a member of the Fellow American College of Surgeons. His practice is 40% Vascular Surgery & 60% General Surgery. He and his wife Kecia Kirk, MD Family Practice, have two children Carter & Breece. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.
